Mildred (Midge) Kennedy Glace Bay, NS We, the family of Mildred (Midge) Kennedy, sadly announce her passing on October 4, 2023. She was our loving Mother and Matriarch and there will be a huge void in our lives going forward. Mother was born in Glace Bay on April 5, 1933, to James and Elmira Turner, and raised in a close family of eight siblings: Muriel, Albert, Johnnie, Elmer, Fred, Sidney (infant death), Harold, and Jean, all of whom predeceased her. She held them firmly in her heart and memory and spoke of them frequently during her life. Mother also had 27 nieces and nephews, many of whom she maintained close lifelong relationships with. A graduate of Morrison Glace Bay High School in 1951, Mother went on to work in the Royal Bank until she married and had a family. She returned to the workforce in 1965, at the General Hospital as Ward Clerk and later as Switchboard Supervisor, where she made many friends with whom she travelled with to Bahamas and Europe and had made happy memories. Mother was a lifelong member of Knox United Church. In retirement she skated 2-3 times a week, and she spent many hours sewing and knitting Merry Maxim sweaters for all the family during her early years and that was her speciality. We could all depend on Mother, she had a calm disposition, a level head on her shoulders, boundless energy, a kind and loving heart, a generous nature, and independent spirit, and lots of patience. Mother’s greatest joy was her family. She often said that we were her “whole world”, mom demonstrated this to us in so many ways and we felt her love and concern for us right up to the very end. We will miss her terribly, but she will be with us forever. Rest well Mother, you will never fade from our memories. Midge is survived by her four children: Marilyn (Herman), Ross, Ian (Barb) and Bruce (Charlene); eight grandchildren: Alicia (Leonard), Hilary (Luc), Caitlyn, Sarah, Marcy (Dave), Natasha (Matt), Sean and Adam; her two great-grandchildren Theo and Felix were lucky to spend summers with her every year. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially by her oldest and dearest childhood friend Daisy Kaifosh and her cherished niece Ruby MacLeod. Midge was predeceased by her husband John in 1990. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199. There will be a private Celebration of Life and Burial at a later date.
