Wendy Joan Jensen
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Wendy Joan Jensen (DeDieu), born August 28th, 1957, in Calgary, Alberta. Wendy’s journey ended peacefully on October 1st, 2023.
Wendy’s youth and early adulthood were forged in the coal mining and fishing community of Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Wendy left her beloved Cape Breton Island in September 1976 to start a new path in the nickel mining community of Thompson, Manitoba. Upon arriving in Thompson, Wendy quickly adapted to the harsh climate of the northern Manitoba winter and became directly involved with various elements of the community. This included leadership roles on the Thompson Chamber of Commerce, the Thompson branch of the CNIB, and the Nickel Days committee. Additionally, Wendy served as an elected Councilor for the Eastwood ward. Wendy had various career roles during this period but was most fond of her role as Manager of the Thompson division of Videon Cable Systems from 1991 until 2001. In the summer of 2001 Wendy returned home to Glace Bay where she continued to devote herself to community involvement, volunteering with the Sisters of Charity and spending time with her parents, siblings, and extended family.
Throughout her life Wendy had a passion for helping others and bringing people together. She would go out of her way to make those around her feel comfortable, try to lighten their burden and inject a little humour whenever possible. If there was an event or celebration to be planned, she would be the first person to volunteer to get involved. When she wasn’t busy with her various work and volunteer duties, Wendy could be found enjoying the beautiful lakes of northern Manitoba or long walks on the stunning shores of the Atlantic in Cape Breton.
Wendy truly loved the company of her family and friends and is survived by her daughter Chantelle (David), son Charles (Monica), grandchildren Brooke, Nataloy, AJ, Sebastian, and Oliver, and siblings Gordon, Michelle, Tom, and Glenn. She was pre-deceased by her father Andre, her mother Beth, and her brother Leonard.
Her generosity, loving persona and positive outlook will never be forgotten, and we trust that her soul is at God’s side enjoying everlasting love and peace.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm, officiated by Father Norman MacPhee. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Glace Bay.
