Obituary of John Hugh Eagles

John Hugh Eagles Glace Bay John Hugh Eagles, 71, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 after a courageous battle of cancer. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Gordon and Isabelle (McInnis) Eagles. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Lodge 73 and IBEW Local 1852 until his retirement. John was a Branch 78 Legion Dominion member, where he held the position of honorary president. He played darts at Main Event/ Jiggers and Mackay’s Corner Dart League. John was a proud and diehard Eagles fan, who enjoyed Sunday afternoons watching the game at Jigger’s with the boys. John is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Donna (St.John) Eagles; his three wonderful daughters who he thought the world of, Tracey (Trevor Deckert), Lisa (Doug Croft) and Melissa (Craig Walsh); his three precious grandchildren, his pride and joy, Carter, Lucy and Banner. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Norma (Joe) Gollar, Jane Eagles, Donnie (Anne), Robbin (Becky) and Francis (Janet); brothers-in-law, Michael (Cheryl) St.John and Gerry (Nornie) St.John; many nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved dog, Scooby. Besides his parents, Gordon and Bell Eagles he was predeceased by his sisters, Betsy Smiley, Joan Thomas and brother-in-law, Pete Thomas; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Lois St. John. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, February 19, 2018 from 12-2 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Norman McPhee officiating all taking place at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Family flowers only. Donations in John’s name can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Centre or Palliative Care. Words cannot express the gratitude our family has for the wonderful care, compassion and support received from Dr. S. Hall and Dr. W. Saliba (Oncologist), the nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Oncology and palliative Care Departments, you are all truly amazing.
