Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Grant (Ted) Sutcliffe November 13, 1953 – August 25, 2023 Sutcliffe, Edward (Ted) Grant, 69, Lower Sackville, NS, passed away on August 25, 2023. He was born in Halifax to Jean and Edward (Ted Sr.) Henry Sutcliffe. Ted is survived by his son, Gabriel M.Z. Goree and his grandson, Riel Harris Goree-Barton. He is also survived by his mother, Jean, his brother, Rick (Donna Hughes), sisters Lynn Vernon and Lesley Ferguson, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ted also leaves behind his former wife, Lori Jacobs, with whom he remained close. He was predeceased by his father in 2010. Ted was a learned individual and earned a BA in Journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto (1976), a French Immersion Certificate in Paris, France (1991), and an MBA at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia (2000). His multifaceted career in publishing and entrepreneurship spanned decades, with journalism remaining his true passion throughout. His work experience was broad, from owner, editor, and publisher of the Halifax Magazine which he launched in 1978, to working in New York City for News Group Magazines, which included special projects for Rupert Murdoch. Ted’s experience also included business and lifestyle publication start-ups in Virginia and elsewhere. Ted was a kind and easygoing person, and eventually returned home from the U.S. to help support and care for his parents. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for others, and he always had kind words for all. Ted saw the glass as half full, even when things became challenging and health issues began to impact his daily life. When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it was a devastating blow, yet he worked hard to overcome new obstacles and put his best foot forward. He enjoyed the simple things in life: reading, music, a cold beer, laughter, and good company. Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists (Halifax). To leave words of condolence for the family, please visit: www.tjtracey.com. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 3 PM-7 PM at 7 Rexdale Avenue in Halifax. We invite everyone to come and celebrate Ted’s life. Interment will take place on *TUESDAY, October 10 at 11am in Camphill Cemetery, Halifax, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Out of the Cold Shelter, or Feed NS. We would like to thank all of Ted’s friends and family who helped him in his later years, and special thanks to the Sagewood Continuing Care Team who took such great care of Ted during his stay. We are truly indebted to them for their kindness, expertise and care. Rest in peace, Ted. Your battle is over. We love you.
