Obituary of Gerald "Gerry" Paul MacNeil

Gerald P. MacNeil, 1946 – 2023 Glace Bay, NS It is with such sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry on Thursday August 17th, 2023. He died at home with his wife, Elaine and his son, Matthew by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Rogers) MacNeil. He was an electrician and furthered his career by becoming a first-class stationary engineer. He worked for forty-seven years, retiring in 2014. Gerry was married to Elaine (Barrett) on August 31st, 1974. They settled in Dominion and raised three sons. In 1990 they moved as a family from Dominion to Glace Bay (Turner Street), where they shared many memories together. Gerry is survived by his wife Elaine, sons Aaron (Heather) in Ontario, Matthew at home, Jaret (Hannah) in Northwest Territories, brother Roger (Ruth), sister Lorraine Caume, sister’s in-law Jeanice (Wade) Hunter and Wilma (Dennis) Boone and several nieces and nephews. Gerry is survived by four grandchildren: Calvin (Liza), Tessalynn (Michael), Loganne (Michaela) and Kiara. He is survived by two great-grandsons: Lukas and Leo. He loved them all dearly. He is predeceased by a daughter in infancy, sister Carol Pepper, brother Roddie, his mother and father in-law Florence and Bill Barrett, brother in-law Malcolm Barrett and his wife Debbie. Gerry was a kind and caring soul and liked to help people wherever he could. When receiving a gift from Gerry, it was practical and thoughtful, usually a flashlight. We would like to thank Brett Gillis, and VON, for all of your care and compassion given to Gerry and our family, it was greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay, NS. As per Gerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation or service. Donations may be made in Gerry’s name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
