George David MacKeigan,86
Glace Bay, NS
With deepest sorrow and shattered hearts, we, the family of George David MacKeigan, age 86, announce his passing on August 13, 2023 at home surrounded by his family that he cherished so very much. He was born in Reserve Mines to the late Mildred (Lahey) and John Robert MacKeigan.
Pops was the most kind, gentle and humble man as he was known for his optimistic demeanour. Never one of many words, he was always the first to boast about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was always giving to his family, friends and community. He was proud to be part of Cape Breton’s history as a coal miner and with security for Devco. Although he was most proud when opening their home to foster 75 children over 40 years. Dad also took pride in being bartender at the Reserve Mines Pensioners for the last 25 years.
Pops will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years Virginia (McLean) and his sons David (Donna) Glace Bay, Gordon (Carolann) Glace Bay, Peter (Bonnie) Elmsdale, Charlie Theriault Ontario, John James, Michael and Sheldon at home and his daughter Mary Hill Ontario. Lovingly known as Pops, he will truly be missed by his grandchildren Brianna (Kyle), Jill (Aaron), Jillian (Brian), Alex, Ryan, and Jenna Gass, Ashley (Dana), Sara (Kyle), Travis, Victoria, and Brandon, as well as his great grandson Luke and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his brothers Carl (Chris), Beaver Bank and Harold (Judy), Glace Bay, sisters Rhodena (Sis) Spencer, Glace Bay and Mary (Ralph) Costard, Brentwood.
Along with his parents, George was predeceased by his daughter Beverly; brothers Earl, Jack, Gordon, Robert, and Donald, as well as sisters Annie and Marguerite.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Ley for all that he has done for dad the past number of years.
