Obituary of Linda Mae Janega
September 15, 1953 - August 4, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Linda Mae Janega, announce her passing on Friday, August 4, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Linda was born in Sydney to Mildred (Sherwood) and the late Ewen MacIntyre. After graduating high school, Linda began her journey toward a career in nursing. She graduated as an RN from St. Martha’s School of Nursing then worked at St. Rita’s Hospital briefly before attending Memorial University to receive a diploma in Public Health. She worked at Martha’s Home in Health and the VON before landing her dream job with Veterans Affairs in 1984 where she would remain working as a proud and dedicated nurse until retirement. Linda was a life-long learner so while working and raising a family she also earned her BA in Sociology from UCCB, served on numerous committees, and was chosen to accompany the veterans she so proudly served to Italy. Post-retirement, Linda continued to advocate for others while working in adult protection.
After marrying her loving husband John, who considers her his leading lady, they planted deep roots in Sydney surrounded by wonderful neighbors and cherished friends. Anyone who knew Linda was blessed by her kindness, generosity, and compassion. A nurturing, loving, and selfless soul who would go to the ends of the earth to help anyone in need. Linda loved spending time with her family and closest friends who she so greatly adored, attending exercise classes, dancing, traveling, walking, hiking, canoeing, gardening, and any activity that would allow her to be surrounded by nature. Her love of the fresh ocean breeze and the nostalgia of Gabarus led her and John to purchase and develop their beautiful property in the heart of the village, where so many of her favorite memories were made. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family in the place she most truly felt at home.
Linda was loved and will be deeply missed by so very many. Besides her father, she was predeceased by her father- and mother-in-law, John and Lovie Janega. Linda is survived by her adoring husband Johnny, sons Troy (Tania) and Jeremiah (Jayne), daughter Carla, precious grandchildren Troy (Samantha), Jacob, Reese, Scotti, Maecy and great-granddaughter Olivia. Linda was a loving sister to Earl (Jerry), Diane, Roddie (Ramona), Louella, Ewen, Dorothy and Susan; sister in-law to Joey (Carolyn), Bernie (Theresa), and Rick (Estelle); niece to David (Lois) and Dorothy; and a special aunt to many nieces, nephews and their children.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 8, from 3-7 pm in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, 902-539-7175, Sydney. Funeral service will be held in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish at 11 am on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Fr. Bill Burke officiating, reception to follow at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home. As per Linda’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, any donations in her memory be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
A very sincere thank you to the staff of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit for the care and compassion shown to Linda and her family in their time of need, as well as to the wonderful family members and her very best friend who cared for her at home.
