Obituary of Margaret Charlotte Farrell
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom and grandmother, Margaret Charlotte Farrell, at Hospice Cape Breton on May 17, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Vivian (Morrison) Burke.
In Mom's younger days, she enjoyed summer trips to Gabarus with her family. She loved disco, dancing, dressing up, and hitting the town with her brother Jimmy. Mom enjoyed nature and listening to the birds sing while having a morning cup of tea. She was a fan of poetry and often wrote her own. She was a night owl and loved listening to music (especially rock) into the wee hours of the morning. Mom had a green thumb and loved gardening, she planted all sorts of flowers, and she loved her sweet peas. She made the best spider cookies and brown sugar fudge. She loved her granddaughter, Ava, and cherished her memories of spending time together in Big Pond, swimming or turning over rocks to check out all the little bugs underneath. Mom loved animals very much, and over the years she adopted a variety of dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, fish, and reptiles, basically any creature that would let her feed them. Mom had a dark sense of humor with a tendency to often utter hilarious comments under her breath that could get a laugh out of you when you least expected it. Mom could win any staring contest, but also had the most expressive face. She could smirk or give a side eye like nobody's business. While not always being dealt the best cards in life, she was resilient, always showing her strongest side to the world. If mom was in a chatty mood, you couldn't help but sit on the side of her bed and have a little gossip session, which she adored.
Mom is survived by her daughter, Vivian Ramsay and granddaughter, Ava Ramsay; special nephew, Roy Burke and stepdaughter, Rebecca Barron. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant son, Kristian, brothers, Donald Burke and James Burke and beloved grandmother, Margaret Morrison.
