It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alonzo (Lonnie) Patrick Gouthro, age 88 on July 15, 2023, in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, NS. He was born in Dominion, NS and lived in Glace Bay, NS. He was the son of the late Alonzo Gouthro and Helena (Ratchford) Gouthro.
Lonnie was a retired coal miner and served briefly in the Canadian military. He loved hockey and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. He also spent much time volunteering/coaching for minor hockey. In the early days, he loved going to dances with his wife Mary and camping with his family. He loved listening to music, especially Elvis Presley and hanging out at Tim Hortons and Mike’s Lunch in Glace Bay.
He is survived by his son Lonnie (Shawna), his daughters Leone (Craig), Lisa (Darrin); brothers Harry (Karen), Robert (April), David (Linda), a sister Martha (Alan); grandchildren: Kenneth (Sarah), Stephanie, Jillian (Mitchell), Tyler, and Spencer; as well as a great granddaughter Kamryn, and son-in-law Steve.
Along with his parents, Lonnie was predeceased by his wife Mary, daughter Marie and a sister Sylvia.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, 902.849.4199. There will be a reception immediately following the funeral service. Interment of Lonnie’s remains and those of his late wife Mary will take place after the reception in Calvary Cemetery in Dominion, NS.
