Obituary of Jerry Caines

Gerald ‘Jerry’ Caines Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Gerald ‘Jerry’ Douglas Caines on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, on November 22, 1948, he was the son of the late Harold and Esther (Harris) Caines. He worked as a miner for 25 years and was known by almost everyone as Papa. He loved watching baseball and was a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved gardening and always had beautiful flowers in his yard, and he always helped anyone who asked, no matter what they needed. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Deana; sons Jerry and Kenny; stepdaughter, Wendy; grandchildren Carolyn (who lived with him), Stacey, Maitlyn, Tyler, Abby, Trina, Tara, Victoria, Taylor, Nicole; as well as many, many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Chris; brothers, Les, Jimmy, Billy, and John; sisters, Shirley, Rhoda and Olive; grandson Brandon and stepson, Kenny. There will be no visitation as per his wishes. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2023, at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Interment to follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery. There will be a reception at the lower level in the funeral home. We, the family, would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to long time close family friend Darren Farrow. Thank you for always being there. Your loving care, support and helping hands shown to Jerry meant so much and can never be repaid. We would also like to thank the medical staff at the Glace Bay Hospital, especially the nurses, who made his final days more comfortable and to the pallbearers, Darren, Jamie, Kenny, Mike, Jimmy, and Jimmer, thank you for carrying him to his final resting place.
