Alexander Spencer Broughton We regretfully announce the passing of Alexander Spencer on June 2, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, N.S. June 10, 1944, he was the son of the late Sandy and Agnes (Marzek) Spencer. He worked in the Broughton Pit at one time and retired from Number 26 Colliery, Glace Bay. Alex loved Broughton and at one time owned and operated his own sawmill in Broughton. He was in the hardwood business for a number of years. Alex is survived by his wife Ann (Wheeliker) Spencer; sons, Sandy (Isabelle Flynn) Halifax, Allen, Pembroke, Ontario; grandchildren, Neala and Zachery, Halifax; Isaac, Jacob and Lilly, Ontario; his siblings, Donna, Edith (Fred), Shannon (Cathy), Brian, Tony (Sara) Sheila (Blacky); sisters-in-law Betty Lou Spencer, Sheila (Jose) DeSousa, Leona Spencer and Uncle Joseph Marzek. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Victor and brother-in-law Kenny Smith. Special thanks to home care and the VON for their care, doctors and nurses at the Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, NS, 902-849-4199. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, with a reception to follow in Tower Road Fire Hall.
