Sincere sympathy to all the Drysdale family on Myrla’s recent passing. She and Alan and their children were synonymous with their presence and in the support of St. John’s United Church. Myrla’s opinions and advice were always well-considered, we’ll-respected, honest and fair. She was a force of nature in her own steady, calm way and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Myrla for many, many years through our church book club. This meant that I got to experience stories from many parts of Myrla's life - stories from her family of origin, her work as a nurse, and the family still around her which gave her such pleasure. Myrla was also not afraid to express an opinion. This gave us all permission to do the same and led to many lively discussions in our group. I still remember many of those opinions and they would guide me were I ever to write a book. I will miss her and my heart goes out to you all with the loss of this amazing woman.

Condolences to the family on the loss of your mom. I had the pleasure of knowing both your mom and dad as a nurse at the VG. When your dad was a patient at the VG she would bring the staff the most mouth-watering cookies. We all loved her. She was such a cheerful, warm and sweet lady. RIP Myrla. I am sure that you had a joyful reunion with Alan.

It says to "click here to share a memory." Good heavens, there are so many and all of them are blessing. Both Myrla and Alan were those rare persons who actually lived their lives with quiet love, grace, humour and humility. As a Minister, if there was ever something going on in church that involved controversy or conflict, I would have lunch with Myrla. She would offer clear-sightedness, broad analysis, compassion and honest critique of the minister's actions/attitudes, if required. You could always hear it from her because it was offered with an ethical grounding and genuine care for the person. She was as faithful a person as I have ever met. She lived her spirituality in loving service, but a service based on a healthy, confident sense of who she was. She told the best, humorous stories. She often talked of the wonder of her children and grand-children, whom she very clearly adored. Once, she held up padded hockey gear piled near her sewing machine. She said, "You know, I guess it's a good thing, but my children think I can do anything. This hockey gear is testing that theory." I later asked Carolyn if Myrla had fixed it. She had. Myrla always found a way.

We were saddened to hear of Myrla’s passing. As a young boy, I knew only of Myrla, through stories about her father, our local postmaster in Port Hawkesbury. My grandmother was Myrla’s Aunt Marguerite. Our family had the pleasure of getting to know Myrla and Alan when we met at McCully family reunions. Myrla kept in touch each Christmas for many years with a wonderful newsy letter that we looked forward to reading. It was such a pleasure to have connected with Myrla over the years, her presence will be missed. Our deepest condolences to the family.
