Obituary of William Watson Gurney

GURNEY, William Watson, 70, passed away on June 8, 2023, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was born on August 20, 1952, in Krugersdorp, South Africa to Edward and Julie Gurney. William is survived by his children, Jennifer (Doug Bowdridge), John (Stephanie Holland); and his grandchildren, Brionna, Sophie, Roy, Little Willy, and Lyla. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Martin Braun); sister-in-law, Wendy Gurney; nieces, Sarah and Katherine; and nephews, Bruin and Michael. William was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Julie; and his brothers, Nick and Ian. Willy G was a proud, hardworking union member and brother at the International Longshoremen's Association Local 269. He worked tirelessly throughout his career, and his dedication to his work was an inspiration to all who knew him. In his free time William enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was known as the "Mayor" of Retreat Avenue where he lived with his family. William was always willing to lend a hand and was a friendly neighbor to everyone. William loved sharing hosting duties for the legendary Street Party in the summer and enjoyed chatting with his neighbors on his porch. William considered everyone on the street his extended family. The family of William would like to thank the Emergency Department in Truro, particularly Dr. Devin Magennis and Kelly Leblanc EMT, as well as the VG ICU team, particularly Dr. Edmund Tan and Dr. Stephen Beed, as well as Nurses Lindsay and Danielle for giving their father peace in his final moments of life.
