Lorna MacNeil, 77
Glace Bay, NS
We the family of Lorna MacNeil, 77, of Glace Bay, announce her passing in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Alfreda (Sharpe) Hayes.
In her younger days, Lorna loved spending time at the shore or swimming the Mira. As she got older, her sense of family grew stronger. Lorna spent time in Sept-Iles, QC helping to care for her nephews, Michael, and Dan. Upon her return to Glace Bay, she worked at Koolex dry cleaners and Texas Instruments before starting work at the Peoples Store. She made so many friends while working there, whether it be staff or customers. Lorna worked there until the store closure.
Lorna was a skilled seamstress, making fancy dresses for special events and Halloween costumes (Friends could check out the “Tickle Trunk” for costumes). Lorna enjoyed watching baseball, playing darts, and going for long drives for an ice cream. She was a member of the Reserve Mines Pensioners Club, where she helped with banquets and tending bar.
Lorna was always there for her grandchildren, Alex, and Cherry; whether it be trips to the “e-port” to see the planes land or the many soccer games and practices, band recitals or school concerts. She loved Sheila’s children, Thomas, Susan, and Cady as if they were her own.
Lorna is survived by a daughter Andrea Moores (Rodney Boudreau), Glace Bay; two sisters: Sheila Hayes, and Patricia “Pat” Hayes; two grandchildren: Alex (Shelby), and Cherry (Malachi); and many nieces and nephews: Thomas, Susan, Cady, Michael, Dan, and Allyson.
Along with her parents, Lorna was predeceased by her husband Francis “Bunny” MacNeil, sister Michelle, and two sons in infancy, Jason, and Jeffrey.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902.849.4199. There will be no service or visitation.
