Carol Ann (Smith) MacMillan
Glace Bay, NS
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mom Carol Ann (Smith) MacMillan on Sunday, June 4, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Carol was born in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late Peter and Annie (MacDonald) Smith.
Carol was predeceased by her husband Alex in 2015, and sister and best friend Shirley in 2016. In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her brother Willie (Dorothy), mother-in-law and father in-law Hayward and Elizabeth MacMillan, brother-in-law Billie (Lorna) and sister-in- law Frances (Wayne).
Carol is survived by her children, Karen (Kexing) Liu, Ottawa, and Sandy, with whom she resided. Her furry buddy Max has been a constant companion over the years.
Also left to mourn are her brothers-in-law Donald (Joan) MacMillan and Kevin (Lynn) MacMillan, niece Janis Smith and nephews Bradley, David and Kevin Smith and their families.
In her younger years, mom was a secretary with Devco. Following the arrival of her children, mom became a full-time homemaker and took great pride in raising her children and looking after her family. Mom spent many years as a School Board Member with both the Glace Bay Board and later the amalgamated Cape Breton District Board. Her keen interest in politics found her working on many election campaigns over the years.
In more recent years, mom became a member of the Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club. She made many wonderful friendships at the Club and enjoyed her outings to various social events.
Over the years, mom suffered many health challenges, and the family is most grateful for the caring and compassionate treatment she received from the medical community and especially for the care provided by the staff at Pharmasave, Glace Bay and Dr. Jamie MacLean. A special thank you to Dr. McLaughlin, Dr. McNeil, Dr. Oyibo, and Dr. Spencer and all the Glace Bay Hospital 3 West staff for the kindness and compassion shown to our mom and her family in her final days.
Funeral services for the late Carol MacMillan have been entrusted to the care of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. On Saturday, June 10, 2023, a visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating.
