Rita E. Kublek Campbell
Glace Bay
On May 25, 2023 at the age of 95, Rita Campbell passed into her eternal life. Born to the late Fred and Mary Belle (Bonaparte) Young of Dominion. As a young girl she enjoyed spending time at the shore and skating on the pond behind her grandmother’s house on Park St.
She grew up to marry Joseph Kublek and together they had their two darling boys, Freddie and Joseph. Rita was an exceptional mother. Despite the many health challenges the children faced, she and Joe persevered to provide for them the best care possible during their short lives; they enjoyed summers with the Kublek’s in Irish Vale as well as trips to Christmas Island to visit with the MacKenzie’s.
Many years after Joe’s passing, Rita met her second husband, John B. Campbell; they shared 9 years together before he passed in 2014, enjoying outings with his family and their many drives around the island with his daughter Joan and her husband Jackie.
Rita is survived by her dear friend, Blanche McNeil, Glace Bay; niece, Ellen (Rodney) McIntosh, Bedford; stepchildren and their families, Joan (Jackie) Roach, Jack Campbell, Gwen (Blair) MacNeil, all of Glace Bay, Rita Poirier, Indiana and Bernadette Campbell, Florida; sister, Kathleen Cadden, New Waterford; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their extended families.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Joe Kublek and John B. Campbell; her two young sons, Freddie and Joseph; sisters Christine ‘Tina’ Young, Annie MacKenzie, brother, Lewis ‘Sonny’, sisters Eddie, Fredricka and Theresa.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Taigh Na Mara for all their care and compassion given to Rita during her time there; thank you to Fr. Norman MacPhee for the visits and time spent with Rita.
