Obituary of Pierre Joseph Camus
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Pierre Joseph Camus, 76, of Sydney on May 22, 2023, at Hospice Palliative Care. Born in Chéticamp, Pierre was the son of the late Napoléon and Jeannette Camus.
Pierre was very active in the community serving for 35 years with the Howie Centre Fire Dept. as Treasurer; he was Past President of the Cape Breton Golden ‘K’; Honorary Life and Charter Member of Council 9476 Moses M. Coady; Past Grand Knight of Council 9476; 4th Degree member of Assembly 0797 William B. MacLeod; Past President of Cape Breton National Association of Federal Retirees (NAFR) as well as Site Manager for Celtic Colors. Pierre still found time to volunteer at Mountainview School Breakfast Program and he was also a greeter at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Pierre is survived by his wife, Martine (Chiasson) Camus, with whom he would have been celebrating his 50th anniversary on June 1st; daughter, Nancy (Joel) Cormier; brothers André, Lionel, Gélas; sisters Patricia and Dauphine, and grandchildren Matthew, Julie, and Alyssa. Besides his parents, Pierre was predeceased by his son Joey, brother Alphonse and niece Daphne. Pierre was a kind and gentle man and family was everything to him especially his three grandchildren who meant the world to him.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, 902-539-7175. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will take place May 26, 2023, at 11 am in Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Conrad Edward officiating, reception to follow. Interment will take place at Chéticamp Cemetery on Saturday, May 27 at 10:30 am.
The family would like to thank Dr. Abboud, Dr. Ritter, Dr. Khodadad, Dr. D’Intino and Dr. Burns and especially all the nurses at Palliative Care and Hospice who took such great care of Pierre with a special thank you to Heather Skinner.
