Margaret Rose McIntyre, 79
Glace Bay, NS
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dear wife, mom, nan and super-nanny, Margaret Rose McIntyre, 79, of Glace Bay. She passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Marg was the daughter of the late Anthony and Olga (Michalik) Swartzack.
After graduating high school with honours, she was employed with the federal government for many years. She also worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Manpower, and Swifts. Marg used to share recipes and write articles for a local paper. She was a member of St. John’s Church and was a Religious Education Teacher until it closed. She was big on her faith. When palliative care started, she spent time there. She liked volunteering at Savoy Theatre, canteen at St. Joseph’s Hospital and sold tickets wherever needed. She also enjoyed election poll days and helping seniors file income tax.
Mom loved dancing, bingo and cards with her sisters, bowling, and music, including Elvis. A daily walk from home to the end of South Street then Dominion Beach and back while pulling a little blue wagon with her daughter in it was how she would start her day. She was a member of Perry’s Gym. Dogs were very special to her, especially her therapeutic dog Brutus. Her favourite foods were sauerkraut, steak from Bonnie Prince and cabbage rolls. Blondie was her handle on the CB Radio. You would always see flowers and plants in her home. Family was very important to her. The most precious time in her life was spent with her husband of 58 years, he was the love of her life and best friend.
Those left to carry her memory are her husband, Jim; sons Jimmy (Laura) and Keith (Karen); daughter Alysha (CJ); seven grandchildren and twelve super-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by sister Lillian (Carvel); sisters-in-law Louise (Kevin) and Mary; brothers-in-law Patrick (Carolyn) and Michael-Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Marg was predeceased by her son Derrick; sisters Loretta, Annie, and Jeanette; and multiple sister and brothers-in-law.
Special thanks to Mom’s caregivers Jeanne Shepard, Patricia Fraser, and Annette Collis; Kayleigh Butts for always checking in; dialysis units in Glace Bay and Sydney; VON & EHS; along with multiple doctors and nurses.
