Obituary of Pauline Frances Dell

Our hearts are broken to announce Pauline passed away on May 19, 2023, surrounded by her family at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 74. She was recently diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and was courageous and brave during her short battle. Pauline loved to sing and with only five days before her passing, with the support of the music therapy team from Hospice Cape Breton, she fearlessly recorded the song “My Dream” for her children. Pauline grew up in Whitney Pier and attended Holy Angels high school. Pauline will be remembered for the positive impact she had across a varied and inspiring career which included owning and running a poultry farm in Marion Bridge for 18 years, followed by 25 years of Officer service with 693 and 29 Air Cadet squadrons in Sydney and overseeing the safety and welfare of cadets for 20 summers at CFB Greenwood. Pauline only recently retired from working 25 years at Sydney Jewellery shops including Alteen’s, Joy, Bogarts, London Jewellers and most recently Inglis Jewellers. Chances are pretty good that Pauline helped you or someone you know buy the perfect piece of jewellery. She would say her most important role was that of mom and grandmother. Pauline is survived by her children Shauna (David Zylinsky) Dell, Nanette (Derek) Dean, Robbie (Sonya Coward) Dell, her siblings Barbara Thistle, Paul (Cheryl) Hominick, Harvey Leroy and her grandchildren Jessica Dean, Amy Dean, Amelia Coward-Dell and Savannah Coward-Dell. She is also loved and remembered by her partner, Neil Bulley, and his children Percy (Alie) Redhead and Robert (Rain) Redhead and his grandchildren, Alec, Zack, Mia and Alison Redhead. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Robert Dell; her parents Peter Hominick and Rita Hominick (LeRoy); her brothers PJ (Peter Junior) Hominick, Donald LeRoy; brother-in-law Bill Thistle, and sister-in-law, Jemma McLean. Pauline was a beautiful, gentle and positive person inside and out. Her smile was so stunning it would light up the whole room. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She was so kind and passionate. She will be forever missed. Until we meet again. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, 902-539-7175. Visitation will be held in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home Friday, May 26, 2023, from 11:00am until funeral service at 1:00pm with Father Roman Dusanowskyj presiding, reception to follow. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, 1510 Grand Lake Road, Sydney, NS. The family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors for the compassionate and excellent care of Pauline, from the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
