Obituary of Frederick "Fred" Joseph Stewart

Frederick Stewart, 79 Glace Bay, NS It is with deep sorrow, that we, the family of Frederick Stewart, announce his passing on May 15, 2023, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Mary Cleophas (Curry) and Peter Stewart. Fred worked as a miner in the 26 Colliery for many years as an electrician. During his younger days Fred spent his time in Loch Lomond with the love of his life Lorraine Matheson. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and going for long walks, doing arts and crafts, and having a good game of cards. Fred also loved to play the piano and listening to country and Celtic music. He had a passion for fixing automobiles as well. Fred is survived by a daughter: Cheryl Stewart, Hammonds Plains; brothers: Frank, Kenneth, and Raymond Stewart, all of Glace Bay; grandchildren: Lara and Liam Hickey, Halifax; nephews: Peter Stewart and Kenneth Stewart. Along with his parents, Fred was predeceased by his sisters, Connie, Anita, and Carol and a brother in infancy, as well as his long-term spouse, Lorraine Matheson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902.849.4199. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
