I didn’t know Earlene for long or well but she made a definite impression on me. I had come home to East Bay after many years away and met Earlene at Saint Mary’s. She was very warm and kind. I told her I was going to be a Eucharistic minister. She was very encouraging and gave me insight from her own experience for which I am very grateful. It was clear that Earlene was a person of great faith. I know she touched the lives of many as she did mine and hers was certainly a life well lived. My sincerest sympathy to Bill and her family. I miss you very much Nannie. I cherish every memory I have with you--looking through old photo albums and you helping us grandkids curate our own albums, dessert before lunch AND dinner, summers spent running through a sprinkler in the yard, getting excited over getting quilts of my very own, and coming home after school to a hug and the smell of your delicious apple crisp (lemon was your secret ingredient). I love you very much and I can only hope to live my life as you did, surrounded by friends, family, and spreading kindness. Rest in Peace.

Nannie, I miss you so much. You were the best grandma a young girl could ask for. I keep thinking of the week I spent with you and Poppie a few summers ago—our walk along the shore, cooking together, and enjoying each other’s company. These memories are ones that I will hold close to me and cherish for the rest of my life. I’ll never forget the love and kindness you spread, and I’ll live my life doing the same because that’s what you taught me. I love you always. I wish I could tell you that one last time ❤️

Nannie was the most thoughtful, caring, and loving person I have ever known. She always wanted to make sure that everyone felt welcomed and comfortable, and even in her last week's offered anyone who walked through her door a warm cup of tea and a visit full of smiles. I will always cherish the time we have shared together and hold these memories close. What I will remember most of all is the love that my Nannie and Poppie share. Their love for each other is the purest, kindest, and most caring love I have ever seen. Even in recent times, their love for each other was felt by everyone in their presence and it will live on forever. I miss you Nannie. I am so thankful for the smiles, laughs, and tears we shared recently. Rest in Peace.

Bill, Rob, Tammie, Ron and all Earlene's family.I think you all know how sorry I am at the loss of your wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother. I share your pain as Earlene and I were more like sisters than sister in laws. I will miss our frequent chats and sharing of recipes and all the news about Cape Breton. Earlene's love of her home and Cape Breton was almost visible. To Earlene every day in Cape Breton was a beautiful day be it rain, snow or sun. This is so difficult to write. To her husband, Bill, and family, my deepest condolences on your loss. I met Earlene when I joined the Westmount Garden Club many years ago. There are not enough exceptional adjectives in my dictionary to describe Earlene. From my own experience with Earlene, she was the epitome of perfection and personality. Everything about Earlene was second to none. I will cherish the memories of her ginger cake with lemon sauce and her butter tarts. She and Elsie MacKinnon spent months voluntarily appliquéing and quilting a banner for the Westmount Garden Club to display at the annual Nova Scotia Association of Garden Clubs Convention. Earlene will be missed by the WGC in so many ways for offering to host meetings or contribute in many ways. When Earlene would host, she always drew the largest attendance. I will always remember her kindness, her humour and her beautiful laugh. God Bless.
