Daniel Francis McNeil
Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia
Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel Francis McNeil, who died on Thursday, March 16th, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Residing in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Danny and Maggie (McWhirter) McNeil. Being one of twenty children, there was never a dull moment.
Francie (Woody) had a strong work ethic and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He spent over 30 years working in the coal mines, along with doing home repairs and managing his apartments. Life was always an adventure with Francie, he was a man of many talents. He could build or fix anything and was always the first to lend a hand, whether it be to family, friends, or neighbors. He was happiest spending time with his favorite lady (Joan) and family in Iona. He loved being on the water; fishing, boating and looking out over MacKinnon’s Harbour. He was passionate about maintaining the bungalow, with many relatives joining him for the summer to help out on projects. He made sure to pass his many skills on to the next generations. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and could be found by his side all summer long. In his spare time, he liked relaxing at home and watching Star Trek.
Francie was a devoted husband and father, who is survived by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Joan (MacIntosh); son: Arthur (Marilyn); daughters: Lisa and Michelle (Billy); brothers: John (Colleen), Mickey (Diane), Anthony (Diane); brothers-in-law: Harry, Joe; sisters: Tina (Don), Donna, Mary Ruth (Danny), Toni (Dave); sisters-in-law; Agnes (Harold); grandchildren: Brandon, Tyler, Shelby, Jenelle, Daniel, Keidi, Amaris, Chantelle, Ryan, and Jenna.
He is predeceased by his parents Danny and Maggie: brothers: George, Duck, Robert, Jimmy, Billy, Donnie, Tommy, and Darrell; sisters: Mazie, Peggy, Eva, and Debbie.
A special thank you to all the nurses, doctors, and staff in the Emergency Department, CCU, and ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for going above and beyond for the care of Francie.
