Johnston, Ralph Harvey Sgt. (Retired) Age 86, of Bedford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born in Moncton on September 16, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Johnston. Ralph began his 32 year career with the RCMP in Dartmouth in 1953. After 5 years he was transferred to Kentville where he met his wife Joan. He was also stationed in Halifax, Sydney, Baddeck, Halifax Airport and retired in 1985 at the Lower Sackville Detachment. Ralph was a recipient of the Long Service Medal and the 2012 Century of Service Veteran’s Honorary Medallion. He was a proud member of the RCMP Veterans Association where he volunteered for many years. Ralph was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Arch Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Bedford Leisure Club. He loved music and enjoyed his time singing with the Bedford Choral Club and Bedford United Church Choir. Ralph’s greatest passion was his family. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughters and being involved in their achievements. He enjoyed spending time at their summer home in Martin’s River. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years Joan (Woodworth) Johnston, Bedford; daughter Jennifer (Paul) O’Connor, Halifax; son, John David (Christine) Johnston, Bedford; sisters, Lois (Ralph) MacDonald, Delma Johnston, Moncton; grandchildren, Chelsea Johnston, Jillian O’Connor, Catherine O’Connor and Caileigh Johnston. Predeceased by his parents; and his biological mother Eva Catherine Teed. Funeral service will be held Monday, April 9th at 2:00pm in Bedford United Church, 1200 Bedford Hwy, with reception to follow the service in the church hall. Family committal at later date.
