Obituary of Catherine Anne Mader

Catherine Mader, 75 Point Edward With broken hearts we announce the passing of Catherine Mader, 75, Point Edward, on March 10, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with family by her side. She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Cameron. Catherine began her sewing career at the Sydney City Hospital working beside her mother-in-law Rose. From there she spent several years at Campgill Lighthouse where her employers, Minnie and Chaz, quickly became friends. On her next endeavour she went back to the sewing machine, focusing on the skill of upholstery, which she did until retirement. Always up for a challenge, she tackled many new tasks in this trade, always doing a beautiful job. You knew she was at work when you could hear the tunes coming from the barn. At home, it was never a surprise to find a hammer and saw in her hand, or her head under the hood of the car. She took great pride in the new skills she learned (usually from her brothers) and the independence she gained with this knowledge. Mom had the best neighbours over the years. Margaret and Jackie were like a second family. More recently, Colin and Brian generously took over tasks like lawn care, snow removal and mail delivery. She was overwhelmed and ever grateful for their kindness. In the last number of years, as more health challenges presented themselves, special attention from certain individuals made her days more enjoyable. She loved her long chats with her cousin Maureen, and long-time friends Bernadine and Catherine. Her niece Sharon was especially close and someone whom she came to rely on. As well, her son-in-law, Keith was always ready to take her to any appointments. Catherine is survived by her daughter Kim (Keith) Chiasson; sisters Mary (Jim) Bryden and Pat (Kirby) Stapleton; the joy of her life, granddaughter Jordyn and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by brothers John and Danny whom she missed dearly. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16 from 7-9pm at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, 902-539-7175. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 17, at 2pm in Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating A reception will follow in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home. Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting: www.tjtracey.com
