Moore, Irene Theresa, 87 Glace Bay, NS It is with sadness that we, the family of Irene Theresa (Burton) Moore, announce her passing on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born and raised in Glace Bay, Irene was the daughter of the late Mary Anne (Burns) and Leo Burton. At a young age, Irene moved to Montreal for employment, and this is where she resided and raised her family until 1976. She then moved back home to Glace Bay, and worked in the Metropolitan Store Lunch Counter, as well as in the Miner’s Village Restaurant as a cook. Irene’s biggest joy in life was spending time with family and friends; she enjoyed family gatherings for all occasions, with Christmas being her favorite holiday. Mom was the greatest baker, and always had the freezer full, anyone who came to visit was sure to leave with an armful of goodies. Irene had a talent for telling a story with the greatest of details. Mom would also debate on the topic of Politics to anyone who would lend an ear. Mom’s favorite pastime was watching her “stories” on television; she never missed an episode of Coronation Street. In Mom’s spare time, she crocheted many Afghan Blankets with her greatest pleasure gifting them to those who were special to her. Mom took great care and pride when it came to her garden. She always opened her home to her children’s friends making them feel part of the family, where she became known to many as “Renie” and “Nanny Irene”. Mom will be remembered for all the love and support she provided to her family. Irene is survived by children: Lee Singleton (Calder McKay), Lynn Singleton, Lezlee Tracey (Kenny), Loretta Lyons, Laura Groom, and a son Kenny Singleton (Janet Campbell). Nannie will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Courtney, B.J., Laurinda, Carter, Matthew, Devon, Carol, Tyler, Kate, Carly, and Ryan; as well as her precious great-grandchildren: Landon, Meabh, Saibh, Jaya, Audrey Ann and Emberly Rose, and numerous nieces and nephews who were very special to Irene. Also surviving Irene are her sister’s Leone Briand (George) and Claire McPhee (Harvey). Along with her parents, Irene was predeceased by her late husband Peter Moore; siblings: Rose MacIntyre, Pat Burton, CarolAnn Mischiek, Richard Burton; father of her children Ken Singleton; a child Lorna in infancy; granddaughter; Brett MacKinnon and great-granddaughter; Jaycee Tracey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
