Alexander Deveaux, 86 Glace Bay, NS We the family of Alexander Deveaux, 86, of Glace Bay, are deeply saddened to announce his passing in the Glace Bay Healthcare Facility, on Friday, February 24, 2023, with his family at his side. Born in Margaree, he was the son of the late David Levi and Margaret (Nicholson) Deveaux. Alex began his career as a Coal Miner in Glace Bay, in the early 1960’s, he advanced his training and education to continue as a Mine Examiner and Shot fire. He was lovingly known by his colleagues as “Gentle Ben”, as he was a big man with a gentle soul. Alex was also a die hard Habs Fan. He was a supporter of his friends and family; and was known to wear his income tax glasses at that certain time of year; you would find him working tirelessly to help his friends and family in any way he could. Alex was the “go to” for many things, even the neighbourhood families and children would come to him to have small injuries such as splinters, and life problems resolved. Alex was an extremely proud family man; he built his home in the mid 1970’s and this is where he raised his children and others, our family home continues to be a warm, safe place where his grandchildren and great-grandchildren call home. Alex is survived by two daughters: Wendy (Francis) McPhee and Debbie (Gordon) MacNeil; four grandchildren: Sean (Katie) Deveaux, Andrew (Aayla) Markey, Virginia (Mason) Markey, Nicole Markey; four step grandchildren: Ally, Jeff, Aaron, and Sarah McPhee; four great-grandchildren: Gracie Deveaux, Elyas Markey, Logan King, and Harrison King. Alex was also survived by special son in law Mike Markey, and nephew Darrell Bramwell, as well as “adopted” daughter, Sherrie Reid. Along with his parents, Alex was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Anne Deveaux; son, Arthur Alexander who died in infancy; a son and daughter in law, Craig, and Deanna Deveaux; sister Annie Deveaux. Visitation for the late Alexander Deveaux will be held on Friday, March 4, 2023, from 11-1 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1 p.m. with Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding, in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902.849.4199. Interment to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Special thank you to the staff at Glace Bay Hospital, 3 East, to Dr. David Lee, as well as the team at Pharmasave in Glace Bay; to New Waterford Homecare, most importantly Denise Strong whom dad lovingly called “the old girl”. To Alex’s extended family, his brother and sister in laws, thank you!
