Milton Gregory (Milty) DeJeet Glace Bay/Sydney It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend Milton Gregory DeJeet in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on February 18, 2023, with his family by his side. Originally from both Glace Bay and Mira but most recently from Sydney, Milty was the son of the late John and Alma (Bond) DeJeet. A man of strong faith he is now reunited with family and friends who have gone on before him. He was a long-standing member of The Salvation Army and played in the band. He was a baker by trade and after his father retired, Milty owned and operated Johnnie’s Bakery in New Aberdeen until its closing in 2006. In his retirement he liked to golf particularly with his grandson Justin, and he also loved watching his Habs. He felt strongly about helping his community and found pride in volunteering for Meals on Wheels and The Christmas Kettle Campaign. Milty had an outgoing personality and could strike up a conversation with anyone, he was genuinely interested in what people had to say. He enjoyed helping people and would do anything for anybody. Milton really was a great guy! Both he and Irene loved to travel, they made several trips to Florida, and this coming fall had a trip planned for Europe. Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 55 years Irene; sons: Craig, Blair (Tracey) and Cori; he was Grampie to Jacob, Ethan, Devon, Emma and Kayla, and Poppy to Justin and Courtney, he was extremely proud of each of them and their accomplishments. Milty is also survived by sisters: Jeri (Gary) MacDonald and Merle (Brian) Bourgeois; brother-in-law Bert Crews, and sister-in-law Sylvia McManus; in-laws Diane and Clifford Boutilier, Kenneth, and Rosie Marsden, as well as Eric Marsden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Milty was predeceased by brothers Jack and Graham, sister Joan Crews, as well as mother and father-in-law Ken and Laura Marsden Harpell. Cremation has taken place and Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902.849.4199.
