Obituary of Ruth Smith

SMITH, Ruth Georgene, age 100, of Halifax/Oxford passed away on February 5, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home.
Born in Springhill, NS she was the daughter of the late Edward Harold and Mary Alice (King) McLellan.
She was a member of Trinity United Church, Oxford for over 60 years, also being a choir member for many of those years. She was a member of the Cobequid Fun Tones barber shoppers, and enjoyed bridge and gardening. She served Oxford and the surrounding area as the Red Cross distribution volunteer for many years. She and her husband ran Howard Smith’s Studio on Water Street in Oxford from 1956 to 1979. Ruth’s favourite place to spend time was at her cottage on the Northumberland Strait. She loved being awakened by magnificent sunrises shining through her patio door.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Henley (Terry), Timberlea; son, Benjamin (Kathy), Rothesay NB; sister, Beth Baxter, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Stacy Henley, Timberlea; Megan Wynn (Tom), Timberlea; Jeffrey (Tracy), Ottawa; Christopher (Mindy), Quispamsis NB; Sarah Mendoza (Juan), Montreal; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Howard Smith; and brothers, Edgar, and Bruce McLellan.
There will be a family interment ceremony at a later date.
