John Wayne and my father Arnold Walsh met in Harborstone. They played crib together at least three times a day and their friendship meant a lot to my Dad. Our deepest condolences to John Wayne's family. He will be missed.

I was sad to hear of Uncle John Wayne's passing. I remember his telling jokes and playing little pranks when he lived with us for a time in Winnipeg. I know he will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Shauna, Noline, Jason, and families
I was sorry to hear of John's death. He and Arlene were terrific neighbours and good friends to us for many years. I lost count of the number of times I sat at the kitchen table with one or the other,or both, drinking tea or coffee and gossiping. From the the time they moved into the house (and how exciting it was, having new neighbours - and they had a little girl for us to befriend!), we were always welcomed as part of the family, or maybe just part of the furniture, lol. The kids in the neighbourhood, those strays you all dragged back (two and four legged), the door was always open.
Even our pets came and went as they pleased, treating your house as another home. I remember John saying he felt like the pied piper whenever he took Shadow for a walk in the cemetery, as your cat and our cats would trail single file behind John and the dog. Cats always want to be in on everything, don't they? John would often tell me how much he missed our dog, Boo, who would knock on the window to be let in. Once the door opened, he would bound into the livingroom and take a flying leap to land on John with all four feet.
I miss seeing your parents next door. They were both very important to me, and I remember them both with gratitude for that friendship.

Thank you Gwen. You guys will always be like family to us. You and your parents, siblings and Christa were great neighbors. Our parents both loved you all and we have great memories of you all. Thank you for the great note, what great memories of sitting at the kitchen table, all the pets, furniture lol.
