Simon ‘Ducky’ Stubbard , age 76, passed away February 1, 2023 at the Glace Bay Hospital, Glace Bay with his family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, December 27, 1946, raised in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Walter and Veronica (MacNeil) Stubbard.
Ducky was a coal miner for Devco for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and planting his garden and having the ‘odd’ Olands. He was an avid Montreal Canadians and Yankee fan. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ducky was a man of sarcasm and humour, and made a joke in even the hardest of situations. He was nothing less than the ‘Best Papa Stubbard’. He was truly one of the most generous men you would ever know.
Besides his parents, Simon was predeceased by his wife and life partner, Darlene; daughter, Wendy; brothers, Art and Peter; sisters, Mary, Theresa; stepsisters, Thelma and Jenny, stepbrothers, Johnny, Patrick; sister-in-law, Donna; nephew, Tanya and nephew Joe.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Arthur) Nicholas; son, Derrick (Ann Marie) Stubbard, granddaughters, Carrie (Ryan) Parsons, Megan Stubbard, (Travis), Mandy; grandsons, Dylan and Tyler; as well as his three great grandchildren, Miles, Claire, Adeline. He is also sisters, Joan Smith (Joey), Agnes Gracie (Dan), Florence; brother, Ray; stepsister Marge; sister-in-law Margie and brother-in-law, Egan (Betty).
The family would like to thank the staff on 3 East and physician, Dr. Ley and Dr. Mark Ellerker for such excellent care he received over the last few months.
Cremation has taken place.
As per Ducky’s wishes, there will be no services.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
