It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Georgina Holman on January 28, 2023, at the age of 89. The eldest of six children, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Simpson and Pricilla (MacLennan) Tighe (Fred).
Mom was a courageous, independent and caring person. She lived and died on her own terms, maintaining her independence and courage right until the end.
She graduated from the Glace Bay General Hospital as a registered nurse and moved to Ontario to be with the love of her life Fred Holman and they were married December 1, 1956. After deciding to move back to Cape Breton, she returned to school to obtain her occupational health certificate and finished her career working at DEVCO as an occupational health nurse.
Mom and Dad built their home in Port Morien, where she enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors and caring for their many pets and animals that she loved over the years. Mom loved the ocean and walking on the beach.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl and son-in-law, David Paruch; grandson Andrew (Tonda); great grandchildren, Kae, Luca, Lexa and Axl. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Boutilier and Jessie Burke; brother, Alfred, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
She always had a special bond with her nephews, Dennis Pendergast and Leonard MacCuish and great nephews, Morley Pendergast and Mason MacCuish. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred; brothers, Jimmy and Kenny, brothers-in-law, Sam Boutilier and Sonny Burke and sister-in-law, Bernadette Simpson.
We will miss you forever, Mom.
Special thank you to Dr. George Burns, and Nurse Brett Gillis of Palliative Care; Dr. Ron MacCormick, Cancer Center and Dr. Stephanie Langley and family doctor Dr. Mark Elleker for all your care, support compassion and visits over the years. You are all greatly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. As per Georgina’s wishes there will be no visitation or service.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
