James ‘Jim’ MacLean
Glace Bay
With broken hearts, we, the family of James ‘Jim’ MacLean, age 73 sadly announce his sudden passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Nelson and Ethel (Pearson) MacLean.
Jim began his career in retail with Woolco and later Walmart where he was employed for 44 years until his retirement in 2019. He was a great family man and his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He supported and followed them in all their sports and activities. Jim was an avid gardener and loved when Spring arrived, and he could get his hands dirty in the soil.
Jim would go above and beyond for his friends and neighbours. He was a jack of all trades and would be the first one there to lend a helping hand. He loved going on vacation with Darlene to any warm weather destination. Life was good if he had his feet in the sand and a cold beer in his hand. Jim was also a devoted sports fan and loved his Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and Screaming Eagles.
Jim is survived by his wife Darlene Cuzner; his sons Ryan MacLean (Tessa Johnston) and Brennan (Jolene) MacLean; his stepdaughter Rebecca Cathcart (Brad LeBlanc); and his grandchildren Dylan, Chloe, Cody, and Nicholas. Also surviving are his sisters Barbara Anderson (late Lantz) and Judy Cameron (late Sam); his brother Keith (Darlene) MacLean; sister-in-law Marilyn MacLean (late Carl); brothers-in-law Rodger (Lynn) Cuzner, Charles (Karen) Cuzner, Brian Cuzner; sister-in-law Kim (Jerry) Bedecki; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim will be fondly remembered by his life-long friend Marv King.
Besides his parents, Jim is pre-deceased by his brother Carl MacLean; mother-in-law Kay Cuzner; father-in-law Truman Cuzner; brothers-in-law Sam Cameron, Lantz Cooke, and Paul Cuzner.
