Allyn was gentle and kind man who made me feel welcome when we moved to Halifax over 12 years ago. I remember the lovely canoe trip through part of the Shubenacadie Canal. He had a flair for describing the history of the canal and region. May his memory be blessed and a comfort to his family.

Please accept my deepest condolences for your family’s loss. I met your father several times at school gatherings and he was always very supportive of what was happening in the classroom. You have been blessed to have such loving parents. They are among my fondest memories of all the classroom helpers.
Toutes mes condoléances à Michelle, Rebecca at Nancy en ce moment difficile.

I am very sorry to hear that Allyn Clarke has passed away. Allyn was a wonderful scientist who made major contributions to our understanding of the large-scale circulation of the ocean, especially in the subpolar North Atlantic. His quiet manner and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed. Richard Greatbatch, Professor (retired) of Theoretical Oceanography, GEOMAR, Kiel, Germany.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Al's passing. I worked with him for my entire career at BIO, and we spent many days at sea together. He was one of the most brilliant scientists I ever knew. In addition, he had a unique talent for leading people with his quiet, well-thought-out comments and actions. My deepest condolences to his family. Al has left a legacy that will last for many decades. RIP, my friend. - Paul Dunphy

Allyn was a shining light in the scientific darkness of climate change doubters, including scientists in our own place of work.
He shone this light with a comforting kindness , patience, the facts, and a smile when faced with such denial . Thank you for your contributions to our global understanding of this oceanographic and climate phenomenon , Dr. Clarke. You will be remembered and missed.
Sincerely,
Valerie Bradshaw

I have many memories of Allyn (and Sandra) even though we moved away for 16 years. When I retired and moved back a few years ago, it was so lovely to see him at UUCH. I have such a clear and beautiful memory of a nature hike after church just before we moved to Ottawa in 2001. My children were 5 and 7 and it was on a trail near Chrystal Crescent. It was a beautiful gentle afternoon and my daughter, age 5, was so very shy around everyone but not Allyn. Rest in peace and power.

Allyn was a gentleman who I meet when he made his arrangements for his wife Sandra to be laid to rest in the Green Burial section of Sunrise park Green Burial Interfaith Cemetery. Allyn was all about saving the environment and the love he had to protect this planet. He had a birch tree planted in front of his grave. I am sure he was a wonderful example for many over the years. To me he was a warm kind hearted soul with a caring tone in his voice. Bless each one of you family.
