Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Frank passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2018 at the age of 68. Born in 1950, in Dartmouth, he was the son of the late Edward and Theresa (Vickers), both of New Brunswick. Frank left Prince Andrew High School in 1970 and went to Vocational School to pursue a career in Stationary Engineering before heading off to a career in sales. He earned his diploma in Stationary Engineering and worked at Nova Scotia Light and Power for several years before starting a career in Real Estate. He worked in Real Estate until 1996 due to ill health. After a short time, he moved on to his third career in auto sales. Frank leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Kathleen (Forbes). He married Kathleen in 1973 after graduating from Dartmouth Vocational School. They had two daughters, Melinda in 1975 and Heidi in 1977. They settled down in their first home in Forest Hills in 1979 before moving to their present home in Colby Village. Frank was born into a large, close-knit family of brothers and sisters who grew up and enjoyed their childhood in Dartmouth. He is survived by his brothers James (Geraldine), Ralph (Donna) and Robert (Lois); as well as his sisters Geraldine Norton (James), Margaret Cooper (Bruce), Theresa Feeney, Catherine Delfs (James), Mary MacDonald (Craig) and Martha Anderson (Daniel). Frank was predeceased by his brother Paul Feeney. As a child, Frank developed a love of sports, especially baseball. He played pick up games with friends as a youngster and was so enthusiastic about the sport he once stayed and played out the end of a baseball game with a ruptured appendix because he couldn’t bear to see his team lose. He went on to play slow pitch baseball with a gentlemen’s league and enjoyed curling at the Dartmouth Curling Club for a number of years. He was a warm and involved “Pups” to his four grandchildren, Tyler, Hannah, Jack, and Isabel. He cherished the time he spent with his grandkids and loved to watch them play sports. An avid weather watcher, he enjoyed tracking a good snow storm and was proud to announce his prediction on school closures because nine out of ten times, he was right! Last summer, Frank got to check off one more item on his bucket list when he went on a “ride along” with the Halifax Regional Police. The slow, cautious driver in Frank was shocked when the officer received an emergency call that required a rate of speed far outside his comfort zone. Exhilarated and newly educated in “a day in the life” of a police officer, Frank made such an impression on the officers, he was invited out again. He looked forward to his next ride. We will miss his teasing and his kind-heartedness. He was a wealth of information and could talk to anyone about anything. A quick trip to the grocery store could take hours to chit-chat with friends and strangers alike. Viewing and a celebration of Frank’s life will be at St. Peter Catholic Church, 10 Maple Street, Dartmouth. Viewing 6-8pm Thursday, April 12 and a Funeral Mass with Father Jim Richards, Celebrant, Friday, April 13 at 10am followed by reception. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
