Obituary of Bill Bonner

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Bill Bonner on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Northwood Manor, Halifax. Born in Point Aconi in 1940, Billy was the son of the late Bill and Florence Bonner. In 1951, his family moved to Halifax and later settled in Lower Sackville. For many years, Billy worked for Lindsay’s Funeral Homes in Halifax, Bedford and Windsor, Nova Scotia. Following that, he worked in the used car business, first with his brother Allan in Lower Sackville and later with his brother Reg in Bras d’Or at Northside Auto Sales. He later returned to Dartmouth and was employed by Dartmouth Dodge as a parts salesman. Bill was a very friendly and kind person. His kindness to so very many will never be forgotten. As a member of the Shriner’s Club, he enjoyed meeting and helping others. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by brothers Allan and Donnie, three brothers in infancy and sister-in-law Carol. He is survived by his brother Reg (Mary), Bras d’Or, sister-in-law Sheila, Lower Sackville, nieces Donna (John) Charlottetown, Paula (Darcy) Harrietsfield, NS, Yvonne (Greg) Dewdney, BC, nephew Darryl (Mylene) Lower Sackville and grand-niece Victoria (Chad), Surrey, BC as well as numerous cousins. Visitation will be held in T.J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, Thursday, Jan. 26th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm., Masonic service at 7 pm followed by a Celebration of Life. Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com. Visitation also will follow in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines, NS, on Friday, Jan. 27, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, 10:30 am in Saint Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with Father Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Bras d’Or. Donations may be made to Saint Joseph’s Cemetery or to a charity of your choice. A very special thank you to Northwood for their kindness & care shown to Bill.
