Obituary of Alan John Hayter

Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alan John Hayter On Monday, April 9, 2018, Alan passed away peacefully, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer. Alan was born in Redcar, England to Martin and Mary Hayter. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan and his dear children, Mark and Louise (Simon), darling granddaughters, Kate and Amelia, and sister, Caro (Brian). As well as Joan’s family, Nick, Victoria, Neve and Jessica. He had many friends and neighbours who became like family over the years. Alan was an engineer, who travelled around the world for his profession, and had an extensive compilation of artifacts from many foreign countries, including his collection of guns and classic cars. One of his passions was duck hunting with his close friend David. He loved the outdoors, the land and scenery of Cape Breton, and always said the best view in the world was from his living room window; the ever-changing beauty of the Morien sand-bar. Alan had a very dry wit, a cheeky smile and was ever an English gentleman, especially wearing a cap and waving from his dandy MG. He will be greatly missed by all of us. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Cancer Centre and Palliative Care Unit at the Regional Hospital. Your guidance and concern made a difficult journey easier to bear. Your kindness will never be forgotten. A service for Alan will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at St. John’s United Church, Port Morien, at 11 am. Arrangements were entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS 902-849-4199 Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com
