Obituary of Kathleen Hannem
Kathleen (Kay) Stubbert Hannem
It is with heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of their dear Mother, Kathleen (Kay) Hannem at home, after a brief illness on December 26, 2022, at the age 92. Mother was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born at home, on her father's farm in Groves Point, N.S., Mother was the second eldest and the only daughter of the late Irving T. and (Mary) Lillian (MacLennan) Stubbert.
At the age of 18, Mother left her father's farm to start her adult life in Sydney. While working at the Dianna Sweets, she met and married our father, Murray Augustus James Hannem. They were married in 1949. Our parents were married for 48 years.
She is survived by her children Murray (Wendy), Mary Wypych, Irving (Florence), Kathleen (Gary) England, Donna (Jerome) O'Neil, Muriel (William) Maclean, and Carolyn (John) O'Neil.
Mother is survived by 12 grandchildren: Anthony, Nancy, Mark, Harvey, Angela, Adam, Vicky, William, Charles, James, Shawn, and Emily. Along with 19 great grandchildren scattered across Canada.
Mother was predeceased by her three brothers: William (Doris), Earl (Emily), and Benjamin (Joan).
Mother loved her children above all else, providing for their every need, whether it was new clothes, food for our bellies including lots of baked goodies, or a listening ear, she was always present and available to us.
To say Mother loved gardening is an understatement. She couldn't wait for Spring to work in what we lovingly called " her jungle ".
Mother's faith was the foundation upon which she built her life.
At this time, we want to express our heartfelt thank you to Dr. Greg Myatt and his office staff, especially Janice Black and Laura. They went above and beyond to provide Mum with the best care possible.
We would be remiss not to mention the many support workers who provided daily care to make Mum comfortable during her last few years, Anne, Marilyn, Ann Marie, CharmIne, and Joyce.
In addition, to her husband, Murray, Mother was predeceased by her grandson Jan Wypych and her son in law, John Wypych Visitation will be held in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 2 Churchill Dr., Sydney, 902-539-7175, January 8, 2023, from 6 - 8 pm. A celebration of life service will be held on January 9th, 2023, at 1 pm at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, conducted by her nephew, Pastor John Hannem. There will be a private family interment service at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the St. Ann’s Bay United Church memorial fund or the Salvation Army. On-line condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
Please note that the family has requested that masks are required at the visitation and celebration of life service.
