It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Tucker Nearing, age 79, on Christmas day, at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Veronica (Lynch) Nearing.
Tucker served as a medic in the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years until his retirement. He also served during UN peacekeeping tours in Cyprus.
He enjoyed a good game of darts in the Saturday League at Glace Bay Legion where he was named ‘ Sportsman of the Year’ as well as an avid sport fan and a collector of anything and everything.
Tucker is survived by two daughters, Michelle Nearing (Mel), Glace Bay, NS and Lori (Troy) Arsenault, Oromocto, NB; his son, Duane Nearing (Emilie) Gatineau, QC; and his precious grandchildren, Matt Hare, Ty Arsenault, Charlotte Nearing, and Maxim Nearing, who was their beloved Poppy.
He is also survived by his brothers, Charles (Edna) Nearing, Dominion, and Joseph (Lisa) Nearing, Calgary, AB; sisters, Patricia Pembroke, Glace Bay, Helen (Fred) Mackie, Gardiner Mines; sister-in-law, Deborah MacKillop, Bridgeport, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his dear friends, Jeanette Beaton-Saccary and Josie Dacheau.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sandra (MacKillop) Nearing; sister Bonnie Burton, and brother, Alphonse (Eileen) Nearing Jr.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 2 - 3 p.m. with a service to follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199)
