Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Brian Reid, age 74 on December 22, 2022, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Norman and Josephine (Smith) Reid.

Brian also known as ‘Stretch’ to his fishing buddies, he loved the sea even though he couldn’t swim a stroke. Brian’s passion was his children and grandchildren. He was a man of few words, but everyone knew his kindness and gentle touch. He enjoyed drives with his daughters and lunch at Burger King.

Brian is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Melva Munroe Reid; two daughters, Kerri, and Marilyn (Jason); son, Brian (Deanne); stepson, Calder; grandchildren, Danielle (Chetan), Mitchell, Ryan (Madison), Chad, Keeghan, Breanna, Brian, Braydan and Luke. He is also survived by his brothers, Tommy (Marg), Jim (Sonya), Keith (Janice); sisters, Margie, Anita (Tom) and Melissa; brothers-in-law, Terry Roberts, and Greg O’Leary.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Norma (Donnie), Diane, Viola, and brother Edward in infancy, brothers-in-law Jimmy and Junie.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay (902-849-4199). Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, MacLeod’s Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Ley, Dr. McLean, the nurses of 3 West of the Glace Bay General Hospital, and Fr. Norman for all the care given to Brian. We the daughters would like to thank Dad’s sisters Anita and Melissa for being the special angels that you are.
