Obituary of Anita Louise Slaunwhite
Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
81, Halifax
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Anita Slaunwhite on Dec. 7, 2022, with her family at her side.
Born on Aug. 3, 1941 in Epsom (London) England to the late Fred and Alice Jonas (Morden, England), Anita was a gifted cook, baker and seamstress, but her passion was her garden. She spent endless hours tending to her garden with amazing results. Her yard was a beautiful masterpiece with blooms in all seasons. As Mum often told us, “I adore flowers”.
In 1965, after finishing her studies in England, she headed out on holiday to Nova Scotia. Once she arrived she fell fast in love with Canada and her soul mate, Bill (or William when he was in trouble)
After retirement from the NS Provincial Government, she spent her time bowling, swimming and enjoying Starbucks dates with her friends. Bill and Anita traveled back to England many times, and recently enjoyed the retirement life Cruising and in the Caribbean.
Anita deeply loved her family and she found immense joy every time the family gathered. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill & son Gary (Terry Lynn). She will be deeply missed by her Granddaughters, Justine (Adam), Erica (Shawn) and Rebecca; the sunshine of her life, Great-granddaughter Maddie, and adored Great-Grandsons Breton and Shawn; her son in law Frank Cowie, brother Terry (Marion) Jonas, in-laws Lorraine, Donna ( Cookie), Ritchie, Barry and John; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Anita was pre-deceased by her darling daughter, Karen (Cowie); and sister-in-law, Rose.
Special thank you to the staff at the QEII Infirmary, ICU (5.2). Your care will never be forgotten.
As per Anita’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the compassionate care of TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3S 1C4, where visitation will be held on Tuesday December 13, 2022, at 10 am followed by a celebration of life at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the MS Society, Atlantic Division.
