Obituary of Ruth Ida Ryan

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth Ida Ryan, 67 Arichat, Richmond County, Cape Breton July 10, 1955- November 30, 2022 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom Ruth in the early morning hours of November 30,2022 surrounded by her youngest daughter Jaymee Ryan, twin sister Theresa and brother-in-law Al Gallant. Ruth suffered with debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years, especially in the last 10-15 years, it not only took away her mobility, but her quality of life. She had spent most of the last 2 years in the QE11 Health Sciences Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We would like to thank the countless Dr.'s, nurses, porters, kitchen, laundry, and custodial staff for helping to make our mom smile daily. She was not the easiest of patients due to her ailments, and illnesses, but you all continued to support her the best you could. A special thank you to Dr Richardson (Orthopedic Surgeon at the QE11) who despite the odds, never gave up on her. He stuck by his patients through thick and thin times, always allowing her to be in control. No other Dr has ever allowed this. Dr. Richardson, we would all like to thank you for being more than a doctor, thank you for being kind, caring and compassionate. One does not learn this in med school, it is ingrained in them. At times she was particularly hard to love but was loved beyond measure. Mom’s twin sister Theresa was there with her through it all; Theresa would continually call her multiple times a day, until she would answer. Anyone who knew her, knew of her stubbornness; she could hold a grudge like no other, but when she was feeling well, and in good spirits, she was always the life of any party. In fact, even if there was no party to start, there was when she finished. Once a Caper hauls out the spoons, you know it is going to be a time! Mom had an incredible voice, loved to sing, dance, and bake to any country music going. Known for her cabbage rolls, and date squares, she had sold by the trays. Both my sister and I can remember many a car trips screaming at the top of our lung’s songs by Charley Maclean, The Judd’s, and Lee Greenwood. Although born in Cape Breton, she left at an early age to explore. Having her first daughter in Alberta, then moved to Ontario to be closer to her twin sister, while in Ontario, she had her second daughter, and soon after returned to Nova Scotia. Most of her life was spent living in Dartmouth. She made many friends, and took in lots of adventures Her biggest and most precious moments were spent being “Nanny,” she loved her four grandchildren very much, Jullian Ryan, Ryan Bramwell, Alix Bramwell, Cooper Boudreau. One of Mom’s biggest regrets was not having the ability to do with her grandchildren what she so desired to do with and for them. She is survived by her two daughters Alisha (Jamie) Bramwell, Cold Lake AB, and Jaymee Ryan, NS; sisters: Theresa (Albert) Gallant, Glace Bay, Mary (Janis) Walsh, Kelowna, BC, Marie (Kevin) Jeffrey, Edmonton, AB, Geraldine (Andre) Cote of Sydney, NS; stepsister Connie (Steven) Truro, NS, and foster sister Irene, Halifax, NS. She was predeceased by, her late husband Richard Edwards, a sister Clarisse Ryan, foster parents Bernie and Simone Hayes, as well as her birth parents Frank and Alice Ryan Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199. We will say our final goodbyes to our mom on December 10,2022 at 11 a.m. in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Reserve Mines. I would ask if you had a story or two you would like to share about Ruth, please post to www.tjtracey.com, for all to enjoy. I know her sisters have several stories, and we would love to read them. Memorial donations may be sent to the Arthritis Society at https://www.arthritis.ca Ruth will be missed by many Mom, wherever you are, I hope there is lots of music. Now’s a time to be pain free, finally. RIP
