Obituary of Catherine (Cathy) Corning
We are saddened to announce the passing of Catherine (Cathy) Ruth Corning, 64, nee
Thompson on November 29, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Cathy was born in
Halifax, N.S. to the late Marjorie (Mossman) and Robert S. Thompson. Cathy will be remembered as a devoted wife to Frank for over 41 years as well as a loving
mother to her children and grandchildren. Although Cathy was not able to get around on
her own due to her illness, she stayed connected to her family using technology. This gave
her a lot of comfort in her final years. She also spent a lot of time with the Cape Breton
Fellowship and felt blessed to have the members as part of her family. She spent many
years dedicating her time to raising money for Muscular Dystrophy (which she suffered
from for many years) as well as the Diabetes Society. Cathy is survived by her husband Frank Corning, son Michael (Cynthia White); daughter
Heather (Matt) Bruce; brother Robert (Sandy Lawrence) Thompson; sister Elizabeth (Kevin)
Anthony; two grandchildren, Harrison and Oliver Bruce and mother-in-law Barbara
Edwards as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her father-in-law, Frank Corning. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spanish River Community Hall, 1842 Kings Road
Sydney River with Rev. Kevin Mattatall officiating on Sunday December 4th @3:00 p.m. Service will stream live on utube on the Cape Breton Fellowship Church channel. An interment
will be held at a later date at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Belnan N.S. Donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy or Cape Breton Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 6014, Sydney, NS B1S 3V9. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Cape Breton Regional
Hospital. As well a big thank you to the home care workers who looked after Cathy for
many years. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.tjtracey.com.
