JAMES (JIM) CREIGHTON GRANT
Late of Fletchers Lake, Nova Scotia, passed away Saturday, November 19th, 2022 at the Halifax Infirmary, in Halifax. Born on May 20, 1946, in Halifax, he was the son of John (Jack) Creighton Grant and Margaret Jane Moody. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharron (Atton); step-daughter, Robin Morrison; step-son, Adam Harnish; step-grandaughters, Piper and Dayle Morrison; daughter, Stephanie Jollymore; son, Jeffrey Jollymore (Melissa); grandson, Conner; granddaughter, Emma; sister, Patsy (Bob) Knight; brother, Malcom Grant; god-daughters, Chelsea and Brianna Crooks; several nieces and nephews.
An unforeseen accident in 1964 lead Jim to enroll in a welding course in Sydney, Cape Breton. Over the next 36 years, Jim traveled across the Country practicing his skills, training welders; teaching TIG welding; supervising large construction projects, as Erector with Babcox and Wilcox during the 1970(s). During the 1980(s) Jim was Field Supervisor for the Pipefitters and Plumbers Local 56, sharing his knowledge and expertise and enjoying the camaraderie of his union families.
Jim became a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers, Local 271 (out of Quebec), on his 22nd birthday and in 1973, he transferred into and was an Honorary Charter Member of Local 73, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Jim became a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 512 (Bathurst, New Brunswick) in December, 1970 and in 1972 transferred into Local 56, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Jim became a member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes in his early twenties.
Upon retiring in 2003, due to on-going health issues, Jim enjoyed fixing up our “forever home and property”, sharing his many stories with family and friends and always ready with a joke to put a smile on your face.
Jim was predeceased by his father and mother.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, November 29th, 2022 at the Buffalo Club (Harbour Lodge # 53), 2 Wentworth Street, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Jim wanted to give special mention to the following – the late Fred Enman, Greg Pope, Earl Baker, Bill Crosby, Brian Thompson, Charlie Grimes, Fred Crooks and Howie White.
