Mary Penticost Obituary

At age 75, Mary Penticost of Sydney passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2022. She was

the daughter of the late Tom and Anne Carmella (Bennett) O’Leary. After growing up in

Reserve Mines, Mary moved to Sydney. She always enjoyed going back and spending time at

home with her family which was always surrounded by music and laughter.

Mary is survived by Fred, her ex-husband and lifelong friend that supported her throughout her

life and her illness. As the days got harder, Mary enjoyed talking about “her Freddie” and

thinking back on those good times they shared. Mary will be greatly missed by her daughter

Tracey, grandchildren Amy (Nick), Kirk and Ryan. She will be remembered fondly by her

siblings, Jerry (Terry), Debbie, Greg (Viola), Brian (Patricia), Raylene (Bernie), Patti (Leonard),

many nieces and nephews, and her god children Robin and Tommy who she loved dearly and

had a special place in her heart.

Along with her parents Mary was predeceased by her sister Linda, her brothers Gerard, Joe and

Teddy. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mary’s life will take place Thursday,

November 3rd at St. Joseph’s Parish in Reserve Mines at 11:00 am, burial to follow.

We would like to say a special thank you to the creative care staff at The Cove Guest Home who

treated her with compassion and dignity. As well as her doctor of 45 years Dr. John Archibald,

who gave her the best possible care.
