Obituary of Venola "Nolie" Mary Graham

Venola Mary (Nolie) Graham,92 Glace Bay, NS It is with deep sorrow that we the family of Venola Graham announce her passing on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Venola was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary Gillis, Glace Bay. Nolie was a homemaker for many years, raising her daughters on her own after her husband died on the surface railroad at No. 26 Colliery in 1972. Later in life when her grandchildren came along, she took great pride in being their Nan. In her daily travels, Nolie was well known in Glace Bay for her frequent trips to “Supervalu” and of course, to her church. Nolie enjoyed quiet evenings in her home, watching Coronation Street with a cup of tea and for a treat, she loved a slice of pizza. She also had many friends with whom she made phone calls to late into the night. Nolie is survived by her 3 daughters: Lynn Bennet, Mary MacDonald (Donnie), and Gayle McDonald (Howard); a brother Dan Gillis, Ontario, and sister Dolores Sajatorich, Antigonish; six grandchildren: Aleacia (Paul), Jade (Adam), Daniel (Shelly), Sarah, Cameron, and Connor; two great-grandchildren: Kinsley and Audra. Along with her parents, Nolie was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1972 and son in law, James Bennett in 2015. Also predeceasing Nolie were two brothers, James, and John Gillis. Special thank you to the staff of Ferguson’s Pharmacy, both old and new, for their patience, care, and compassion for Venola. She loved you all dearly. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glace Bay Food Bank. As per Venola’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Venola Graham will be held in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199 on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm, and Memorial Service to follow at 3:30 pm with Fr.
