Shannon David McPherson
Glace Bay
On September 30th, 2022, at 12:05 p.m. the gates of Heaven opened up and the Lord was standing there with open arms greeting Shannon with love saying, ‘welcome my child, my good and faithful servant.’ Though our hearts are aching for our loss of a wonderful man, heaven is rejoicing for their gain.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Reginald and Dorothy (Gosbee) McPherson.
Shannon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucy (Detcheverry); his three sons, David (Sonya), Dale (Susan), Weylin (Trina); stepson, John MacCormack; seven grandchildren, Brycen, Lohgan, Dylan, Devon, Braiden, Breton and Reagan. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen; sister, Bernadette McPherson; several nieces and nephews as well as special friends, Alvin Kimm, Marty McIntosh and Clifford Parsons.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Edith McPherson and Jackie MacIssac.
For many years, Shannon was an avid member of several antique car clubs, and his pride and joy was his own 1966 Plymouth Fury. If you had an antique car, you were familiar with the name Shannon McPherson, his car was his baby. For over 25 years Shannon was employed for Devco at 26 Colliery, Donkin Mine, then Lingan Phalen Mine. After retirement he drove for several shuttles to Halifax starting with the Newfy bullet then Starline. Over the years, he was a member of many dart leagues in the area, the last being Branch 3 Legion where he met many friends and loved to socialize. In his younger years, he served on the executive of Tower Road Legion and a member of the Black Watch Military. A faithful Christian with a love for God and his church family, the CB Christian Fellowship Church, gave him strength to endure his illness with a smile and love for all.
Special thank you to Palliative Care, VON, the Cancer Center and Red Cross for their caring services.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 11-1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Mattatall and Pastor Bruce DeYoung co-celebrating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Palliative Care, VON, Cancer Center or the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church.
