George House
Glace Bay
On Friday, May 4, 2018 the world lost an amazing man. The term “Jack of all Trades” did not even come close to describing our husband and father. Dad was the man who would help anyone who needed it, doing this right to the end. He was a strong man who loved life.
He accomplished many things in life, but his greatest accomplishments were his loving wife, Janet, his children whom he adored, and his overwhelming love and proudness of his grandchildren. If you spoke to ‘Papa George’ I am sure you heard about us!
George House, age 78, was born in Glace Bay, to the late Pleaman and Margaret (LeBlanc) House.
He was employed with Bay Motors, later working for Devco for over 35 years, in various coal mines, 20, 26, Prince, Donkin and Phalen Mines. He loved to travel, from coast to coast and beyond, visiting with family and enjoying the sun. George always had a story to tell and loved being the center of attention. He was happiest when he had a job to do.
George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet (Turner); his children, Lawrence (Glenda), Alberta, Sheila (Russell) MacVicar, Sydney, Allan (Raylene), Georgina (Kenny) Fraser, both of Glace Bay; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Chris and Tracey, Ashley, Ryan and Alex, Kendra and Chase (Papa’s boy); sister, Phoebe (Larry); step sister, Rose Lockie; sister-in-law, Edna (Tim) Nearing, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by stepbrother, Walter Gerard.
He died as he lived, with his hammer in his hand. Papa George we hope to have had half the work ethic and drive that you taught us. We love you and miss you, your family.
Cremation had taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 with Rev. Marian Lucas-Jefferies officiating at the T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, 902-849-4199.
