Catherine Currie
Glace Bay, NS
It is with sadness and appreciation for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine 'Kay' Currie on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at home. Kay is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Born in Glace Bay in 1923 to James and Sarah (MacIsaac) MacIntyre, Kay grew up in Caledonia.Mom studied nursing at St. Joseph`s Hospital and was a proud member of the 1947 graduating class and regularly attended and enjoyed class reunions over the years.
Kay's faith was very much a cornerstone of who she was. Mom loved to bake and was well known for her wonderful tea biscuits. Mom also enjoyed reading, listening to music, doing cross word puzzles (master at it), and sitting on her swing on her front step chatting with her neighbors; she was a natural storyteller who shared many tales with her family and friends.
Kay is survived by her two loving daughters, Morah at home and Marie (Evans), Edmonton. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Josephine Currie;grandchildren Chris, Jessica, Hilary and great-grandchildren Alyssa, Sawyer, and Maverick; as well as her special nieces Sally Thomas and Norma MacIntyre.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Joe and her cherished son Lorne. She was also predeceased by brothers, Normie (Rita) and Donald MacIntyre; sister Mae (Steve) Thomas and a nephew Gerard Thomas.
To the relatives, neighbors, friends, and professionals, too numerous to mention, who assisted Kay in keeping her independence during the final years of her life, her family extends a deep expression of appreciation and thanks. The family would specifically like to thank neighbors Sidney Brewster and Shauna Provoe who watched over Kay for many years allowing her to remain in her home, as well as best friends Robert and Sheila Johnston with whom she enjoyed many happy times.
