Deb was that rare friend who could always make you feel you had a special place in her life. We spent many happy hours together planning and dreaming, talking about our families, learning new skills (rug hooking and quilting), discussing our favourite books, world events, and travel. We walked a few hundred miles at Molega, speculating about our life going into retirement and what we would do with our newly found free time. We enjoyed many wonderful meals together, both at the cottage as well as in Fall River and Lakeview. For 30 years, Deb was a treasured friend and we miss her every single day. Our loving thoughts are with you, Jim, as well as with Greg, Chris, Alex and their families.
“ I cannot say and I will not say
That she is dead, she is just away.
With a cheery smile and a wave of hand
She has wandered into an unknown land;
And left us dreaming how very fair
Its needs must be, since she lingers there.
And you — oh you, who the wildest yearn
From the old-time step and the glad return —
Think of her faring on, as dear
In the love of there, as the love of here
Think of her still the same way, I say;
She is not dead, she is just away.”

I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Simon not only once but twice as a teacher, grade primary and grade two at Basinview. She had the greatest impact on me out of all of my teachers. Even in the past couple of years, close to 20 years later after having her as my primary school teacher, if I ran into her out at the grocery store she would embrace me and take the time to catch up. A very special lady who always knew how and made the effort to make a child feel special. My deepest condolences to her family. - Kelly

My family and I have known Debbie since she was 11 years old. Debbie was our primary babysitter for many years. We are so very sad for her early passing. Debbie was a very admirable lady inside and out. Her love of life was evident in everything she did. Our deepest condolences to Jim, Chris, Greg and Alex, along with their children.
