Obituary of Clarence James Pinsent

Clarence James Pinsent, 93 of Dartmouth (formerly of Glace Bay) passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Green’s Harbour, NF, he was the son of Thomas Pinsent and Phoebe Critch (Parsons). In 1949, Clarence moved to Glace Bay, where he met the love of his life, Ada. Clarence was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was very active in St. Mary’s Church of The Collieries Parish in Glace Bay. He was a member of the Men’s Group, Social Club, Choir, Camp Bretondean Committee and bowled with the Layman’s League for many years. Clarence retired from Devco over 30 years ago. Clarence was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener and could often be found “tinkering” in his basement. He was always up for a good game of cards or Rummoli, with family and friends, especially at the family cottage in Loch Lomond. As a “jack of all trades”, he was always willing to help others. Clarence was a great storyteller, always had a good joke and will forever be remembered as “a great teacher”. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Ada Pinsent (Burt); sons, Tom (Lynn), Leon (Cathy); and daughter, Barb (Alain). Sisters, Isabel (Everett) and Barbara (Jim); sister-in-law, Nancy (Lloyd); brother-in-law, Roy. Grandchildren, Julie, Cynthia (Patrick), Anderson (Candace), Nicole, Glen, Denise, Cameron (Tia); and great-grandchildren, Joey, Liam, Sophie, and many nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Albert Critch; parents-in-law, Charlie and Edith Burt; brothers, Raymond, William, Richard, Thomas, Albert; and sisters, Emily, Lillian, Annie and Ruby; brother-in-law, Charles (infancy) Murray; sister-in-law, Kay. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 12th, 2022, at 2:00 pm, with reception to follow, in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 346 Cow Bay Road, Eastern Passage, Rev. Cate Ratcliffe officiating. Interment will be at a later date, in Forest Haven Cemetery, Sydney. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eastern Passage, Northwood Long Term Care Facility, Halifax or a charity of choice.
